This past week, I had the opportunity to finally work in the studio with my good friend Allie. We had a great time and I learned an awful lot from her in the process. Thank you Allie and to Bente for being a great help with the make up and for making great suggestions as we worked through poses. (Click on the photo to see more.)

Here’s one of my favorite shots from the 2009 Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco. People dressed as large bowls of soup for the Lucky’s Grocery Store chain. Surreal.

The big parade in San Francisco is on Saturday, February 27. Here is a shot from last year’s parade. It was a great parade with lots of excitement, music, sounds and colors. Best of all was that everyone was in a wonderful mood.

Yep, this is the guy who started it all. His name isn’t Hallmark. Meet Saint Valentine, or what’s left of him.

The weather has been strange lately. Cold weather slipping into rain and fog then warm again with tornado warnings. We have even experienced a couple of small earthquakes. It all feels unbalanced and other-worldly. Perhaps it is.

I love Valentine’s Day; all those red and pink hearts.

Is it odd to be nostalgic for a time period I wasn’t even old enough to have lived through in the first place?

Well the sun is gone. We haven’t seen it properly shine in a few days. Just rain, lots and lots of rain. They say the rain is good. I don’t know who “they” are.

Just back from Los Angeles for PhotoLA. What a great event. I was overwhelmed by the works of the old masters and excited to see wonderful pieces by many contemporary photographers. I had hoped for more spark in the air but the mood was a bit somber as the market is not so brisk these days. Investors put their money in the tried and true – Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier Bresson etc, and are not as willing to take risks on the younger artists despite their work being quite good. Since I couldn’t afford any of the art, I took home buckets of inspiration. I also found a few moments to wander the beach during sunset with my new Lens Baby with the plastic lens.

What is it about a cold rainy day that makes me yearn for Rome? I am here editing my photos from a trip that I took back in 2007. What a wonderful three weeks a la Citta Eterna. I miss it so.
